Candidate stopped from using Mundubile song
By Thandizo Banda
THE Conflict Management Committee in Kabwe District in Central Province has barred Bwacha North Constituency independent candidate Prince Chileshe from using the National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity (NRPUP)) campaign song ‘Mundubile na Makebi Bengile’ and related materials during his campaigns.
The committee led by Dr Moses Banda said the directive was issued to avoid voter confusion and protect party property ahead of the 2026 general elections.
NRPUP candidate Walinase Nyirongo had sought the Kabwe Conflict Committee’s intervention saying Chileshe’s use of NRPUP was causing confusion among supporters.
In an interview with The Mast shortly after the meeting, Chileshe said the decision by the Conflict Committee would disadvantage Mundubile and cause a split because the structures were supporting him and an aspiring member of Parliament of their choice.
“I was actually the front-runner at ward, constituency and district levels for Tonse, but unfortunately the adoption was given to Walinase Nyirongo,” he said.
Chileshe said the ban would also stop him and his supporters from rallying behind Mundubile.
Both Nyirongo and Chileshe expressed confidence and readiness for the elections.
Nyirongo called for issue-based campaigns and to avoid character assassination.
Five candidates are contesting the Bwacha North seat.
They are Nyirongo of the NRPUP, Percy Chato of the UPND, Dr Gabriel Nsofwa of Citizens First and independents Prince Chileshe and Emmanuel Mundu.
The committee urged all the candidates in Kabwe to respect party symbols and conduct peaceful campaigns in accordance with the Electoral Code of Conduct.
