Police fail to take Findlay to court, again
By Charles Musonda
The Zambia Police has again failed to take Lusaka business executive Valden Findlay to court for alleged espionage.
His lawyer Milner Katolo said in an interview Friday police had renewed Findlay’s police bond to June 9.
“They’re not yet ready. For us we think the whole arrest was just something they did to intimidate our client without any substance. It is the reason they are having challenges taking it to court. They just wanted to inconvenience him,” Katolo said.
Findlay, 63, was arrested on March 31, 2026 and was scheduled to appear in court on April 17, but the police extended his bond to April 27 before extending it to May 7.
When contacted for a comment, Zambia Police Service spokesperson Godfrey Chilabi said the matter would be taken to court soon as the police had concluded investigations.
“We have done our investigations and it is now just a matter of pushing the matter to court,” Chilabi said.
Findlay is one of those seen as close friends of late former president Edgar Lungu who have suffered the wrath of the administration of President Hakainde Hichilema since it came into office in 2021.
He is had already been interrogated and arrested several times before the latest arrest which was done in abduction style.
