‘Sinking Titanic’ UPND for fininished politicians only – Saboi

By Charles Musonda

NO POLITICIAN worth their salt can think of defecting to the United Party for National Development

(UPND) at the last minute because it is a sinking titanic, New Democratic Congress (NDC) president Saboi Imboela has said.

In an interview with The Mast, Imboela said people joining the UPND were as finished as the ruling party itself.

A number of opposition councillors  and some former officials in the last administration have joined the UPND in recent weeks with the latest being a  former minister of agriculture and a former permanent secretary

“The UPND right now is a sinking titanic because they have failed. I saw in one of the papers that the President is calling for unity. Calling for unity now? You have been jailing people all this time; when we were telling you to unite the country you were refusing because you were more interested in victimising, harassing, and jailing people,”  Imboela said.

“Now, at the last minute this is when he is calling for unity? It can’t work.”

She said Hichilema’s call for unity was like the apology rendered by National Assembly deputy speaker Moses Moyo to the people in his constituency for being an absentee member of Parliament on grounds that he had been busy with parliamentary duties.

Imboela said by being an absentee MP, Moyo knew that was not good for the constituency and himself but he did not care.

She said now that time is gone that is when Moyo is apologising, and without shame, telling people that he will be different if they re-elect him.

Moyo’s apology was enough confession warranting people to vote him out come August 13.

Imboela said Zambians would do themselves a biggest disservice if they voted the UPND back into power.

“The country will never be the same. The people will suffer even more. When politicians fail but if people vote for them it’s like telling them that what they have been doing is good. They will continue to be even worse,” she said.

Imboela said Zambia has power stability because 2026 is an election year and warned people to brace themselves for worse power load shedding if the UPND bounces back.

She said the UPND was not a platform for anyone serious with their political career because the ruling party had failed Zambians.

“They’re not interested in developing this country. They are just being ruthless. They are vengeful. They don’t care about Zambians. Are those the kind of people you are going to give a second term to? When they come back trust me, there will be no Zambia to call a country. Zambia will be completely destroyed. So, everybody defecting I know they even know this fact that UPND is going. So they are just going to get little money and retire themselves together with the UPND,” Imboela said.
