PF says under siege, but vows to hold convention

PATRIOTIC Front (PF) national chairperson Jean Kapata has said the country is under siege because the rights of the opposition are being trampled upon by the current government.
In an interview with The Mast, Kapata said the party was under such a siege that it had resorted to hiding the venue of its convention for fear of being persecuted by the current regime using the police.
“I can tell you that we are having our convention this morning, but I can’t tell you you where it is going to be because these people can just disrupt it,” she said.
Kapata said it was unfortunate that the country had deteriorated to such levels.
The opposition was scared to conduct political business freely because of the persistent intimidation by government.
She however urged the people contesting the PF presidency not to be discouraged if they were not elected as leaders.
“I want to urge those vying for the presidency not to be discouraged if not voted for but work hard to galvanise the party ahead of the August 2026 elections,” Kapata said.
She said she was sure the convention would ensure a good candidate was chosen to challenge the incumbent president.
“We have gone ahead with the ‘no name’ party convention because as you are aware, there is so much antagonism going on as a result of interference from the United Party for National Development (UPND),” she said.
The PF has been rocked by infighting since the death of its former leader and former president Edgar Lungu in June last year.
