Police in Ndola have detained Ruth Mwanza and launched a manhunt for David Zulu, a resident of Minsundu, for the death of their eight-month-old daughter.
In a statement seen by The Mast in Lusaka, Godfrey Chilabi, police public relations officer, said the incident happened on Tuesday, February 10, around 02:00 hours, following a marital dispute with his wife, Ruth Mwanza.
Chilabi said Zulu allegedly hit the baby, Nandi Zulu, on the head with a shovel, causing injuries and death.
“With the help of neighbours, the child was rushed to Arthur Davison Hospital, where she was pronounced dead,” he said.
He said the police processed the scene and the body was deposited at Ndola Teaching Hospital Mortuary for post-mortem examination and burial.
Chilabi said the motive behind the incident remains under investigation.
“The suspect fled the scene and is currently on the run, with efforts underway to apprehend him. The Zambia Police Service is appealing to members of the public who may have information regarding the suspect’s whereabouts to come forward and assist with the investigation,” said Chilabi.
