LEAVE LUNGU BODY ALONE

– Lubinda asks why government wants to see the body

By Adrian Mwanza

WHOSE interests is government serving by demanding to know what caused the death of former president Edgar Lungu, acting Patriotic Front (PF) president Given Lubinda has wondered.

In interview with The Mast Lubinda said it was shocking that government had persisted on getting hold of the remains of Lungu even when the family had made it clear that they wanted privacy.

“We wonder why the government is trying to know so much what killed the former president when the family has not complained to anyone,” he said.

The Zambian government is now using the South African Police Service (SAPS) to wrestle Lungu’s body from the family in order to gain access to it.

But Lubinda said the current government needed to allow the body to be buried by the family because Lungu had made it clear that he did not want President Hakainde Hichilema to be near his remains.

He said the problem was that the UPND had ulterior motives which it is not telling the Zambian people.

“Me and my friends are wondering why Attorney General Mulilo Kabesha is trying so hard to torment the family in the manner he is doing,” Lubinda said.

He said Kabesha and his alleged sponsors should be brave enough and tell the Zambian people what they wanted with the mortal remains of the former head of state.

The explanations UPND they were giving were not making sense.

“There is something fishy going on here because why would they want to know what killed ECL and why do they want the DNA? And who are they going to compare it with,” Lubinda asked.

He challenged government to leave the Lungu family alone because they had been tormented for too long.

The treatment the former president and his family had been exposed to had never been experienced elsewhere in the world.

“The treatment Mulilo Kabesha has exposed the former head of state to is unheard of and humiliating, to say the least. Our plea, however, is for government to do the right thing and leave the family alone,” he said.
