HH missed chance to unite Zambians – Makebi
By Adrian Mwanza
PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema missed an opportunity to unite Zambians because his national address did not tackle the serious issues affecting the country, Patriotic Front (PF) aspiring president Makebi Zulu has said.
In an interview with The Mast, Zulu said Hichilema failed to unite the people of Zambia by failing to address cancerous tribalism.
Zulu said the speech by Hichilema did not inspire Zambians or create hope for a better Zambia.
“Our people at the moment are very polarised. For me, I feel the head of state missed a great opportunity to unite the Zambian people. He should have tackled serious issues that are affecting us at the moment,” he said.
Zulu said Zambians were extremely disappointed with Hichilema for his failure to realise that his presidency was full of vindictiveness and vengeance against his political opponents.
“As far as I am concerned, the national address was below par and did not meet people’s expectations. Zambians could see and touch bitterness in that speech. Zambians saw a remorseless leader preach hate that day. The head of state mocked Zambians,” he said.
Zulu said the presidential address was just about Hichilema threatening opposition political parties, not discussing pressing national issues.
“It is very unfortunate that the speech was just about attacking the opposition and not dealing with serious national issues,” he said.
Zulu said Hichilema needed to heal and start dealing with national unity since the country was greatly divided.
He reminded Hichilema that it was his duty to ensure that Zambians remained united despite their political affiliations.
And Roan member of Parliament Joel Chibuye says the address tackled several issues, among them teenage pregnancies that affected not only his constituency but the nation as a whole.
Chibuye said Hichilema’s speech was timely and urged Zambians to work together to deal with such issues.
“I feel he talked about certain issues like teenage pregnancies, which are quite rife in the country at the moment,” he said.
