Govt warns opposition of worse ‘imingalato’

IMINGALATO will be in high gear ahead of the August 13 general election to secure a victory for President Hakainde Hichilema, says government.
Addressing the media yesterday at his office, Minister of Information and Media Cornelius Mweetwa said imingalato (tricks) was real and the United Party for National Development (UPND) government would use them to secure a victory for Hichilema to retain power in August.
“Imingalato, imingalato will be in high gear in 2026. And whether anyone likes it or not, imingalato will be in high gear. So, these imingalatos are real. And they are beginning to yield results,” Mweetwa bragged.
He said imingalato was a unique tactic of winning elections the UPND and Hichilema would use in August.
“Imingalato has nothing to do with rigging elections. It has everything to do with a unique and never-before-seen political strategy of winning elections easily. After all, there is no strong opposition,” Mweetwa said.
He urged Zambians to wait for the unique winning strategy he described as imingalato.
Mweetwa said Zambians would start feeling the imingalato as the nation heads towards the elections.
“But imingalato, as we draw near the elections, I’ll start disclosing some elements of imingalato, but not in full because even in football, which coach gives a game plan of how they want to employ before the game? They will tell you after the game that our game plan was to attack them on the flanks or in the midfield and use, you know, counterattacks because we saw that they are tired, they have no speed.
That will only be disclosed after the game is over. Now, if you say we are going to use counterattacks, they will bring certain measures to mitigate,” he said.
And Mweetwa said there are no sacred cows in the fight against corruption under Hichilema’s administration.
