ECZ rebutts voter registration claims

THE Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has dismissed as false and misleading social media claims that it has reopened the voter registration exercise to capture new voters.
In a statement issued yesterday, ECZ, however, noted the misleading claims appeared to stem from notices by various local authorities throughout the country regarding the hiring of vehicles.
ECZ corporate affairs manager, Patricia Luhanga, clarified that the notices relate to logistical arrangements for the inspection of the provisional register of voters, as provided for in the 2026 General Election Roadmap.
“This process will allow registered voters to inspect and verify their details on the provisional register and will not involve registration of new voters,” Luhanga said.
Luhanga further discredited as unfounded, assertions that the new voters register was targeted at specific districts earmarked for delimitation.
“The inspection of the provisional registration of voters will be conducted in all polling stations in the 116 districts,” she said.
She urged members of the public to disregard the falsehoods and to rely on official communication channels for accurate and verified information.
“The Commission remains committed to conducting electoral processes in a transparent, lawful and impartial manner and will continue to keep the public informed through official notices and platforms,” said Luhanga.
