PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema will retain power next year, Minister of Information and Media Cornelius Mweetwa has said.
Addressing the media yesterday, Mweetwa said Hichilema had performed well for the country by improving the livelihood of majority Zambians.
He said Hichilema’s excellence in his leadership had impacted the world, earning him global recognition.
“President HH has reset the economic engine of our country from distress through recovery to positive and aggressive transformation for resilience going into 2026, 2027, 2028, going forward. This is the reason why many credible and unquestionable eminent local and international individuals or persons of high reputation and integrity have given a thumbs-up and a vote of confidence in the leadership,” he said.
Mweetwa said the year 2026 would be a period Hichilema would retain power as Zambians were happy with the progress the country had made.
He said Hichilema had worked tirelessly to unite and develop the country, which the people of Zambia were able to attest to.
“Incidentally, for us as citizens and as a country is the year for special presidential and general elections where President HH and his new dawn administration will be staging the first and successful defence of the credentials of their leadership given the expiration of the term of office the first term of office that the citizens had favoured and privileged President H.H. and his team to be in charge of national affairs and direct the country into a trajectory of positivity, a trajectory of unity, a trajectory of peace, a trajectory of progress, a trajectory of hope a trajectory of transformation, a trajectory where we now sit with confidence that the country is moving in the right direction and this year that is coming must be used by all citizens to reflect on the performance of President HH,” he said.
Mweetwa urged Zambians to reflect on the performance of previous governments gone before the UPND.
“…and inform your choices about where this country should go going forward given this unique opportunity that is coming in 2026 which is decision time when Zambia will be deciding whether to guard the progress that has been made to do with the restoration of the rule of law to guard the progress that has been made in terms of economic recovery the decision lies in the hands of the citizens,” he said.
