LAWYERS representing Francis Kapwepwe alias ‘Why Me’ have written to the Zimbabwean government demanding to know whether the Zambia Police Service was allowed to apprehend him in that country.
And Kapwepwe’s lawyers have also written Inspector General of Police Graphael Musamba demanding that he explain where he was being kept since his apprehension in Zimbabwe in June.
In a letter addressed to the Zimbabwean mission in Zambia dated August 28, Makebi Zulu Advocates said Kapwepwe was apprehended in Harare by five Zambian police officers, bundled and blindfolded before being brought back to Lusaka.
According to the letter, the law firm was seeking confirmation as to whether the Zimbabwean government had allowed police officers from Zambia to apprehend and transport Kapwepwe back home in the manner they did.
“Our client advises that he was apprehended in Zimbabwe in the capital city of Harare by five police officers from Zambia and bundled in a vehicle, blindfolded and brought to Lusaka, Zambia,” the letter reads in part.
It also seeks to know whether the Zimbabwean government was aware of the operation to extradite Kapwepwe by the Zambian government.
“Kindly advise and confirm if at all the Zimbabwean government is aware of this occurrence and whether you, as the government, did permit the Zambia Police to enter the jurisdiction of Zimbabwe and arrest the said individual in the manner they did,” the letter states.
The lawyers have also written Musamba demanding to know where the Zambia Police Service kept Kapwepwe for over 60 days after his seizure before presenting him in court.
“Our client was arrested and detained by police officers from your office on the 2nd day of June, 2025, and he was kept in an unknown location up to the 24th day of July, 2025. In addition, he was subsequently brought before the subordinate court on 15th August 2025. We have instructions to write as we now do that you tell us where our client was kept during the period 2nd June, 2025, to 24th July, 2025, to 15th August, 2025,” the letter to Musamba reads in part.
On June 10, police spokesperson Rae Hamoonga expressed ignorance of widely circulated news that Kapwepwe had been apprehended in Zimbabwe.
