Give us a leader, Chungu urges PF
By Tony Nkhoma
ZAMBIANS must not worry about Mafinga Member of Parliament Robert Chabinga because he has donated himself to the United Party for National Development (UPND), says former Luanshya member of Parliament Steve Chungu.
In an interview with The Mast, Chungu urged the PF to immediately choose a leader and give its membership a signal ahead of the 2026 general elections.
“PF should find a leader. We don’t have time. Let’s find a leader from among ourselves. We have people who are capable of continuing where the late president Edgar Lungu left,” he said.
Chungu, who once served as government chief whip under the late president Michael Sata, said the PF should immediately stop commenting about Chabinga because he was not a factor.
He said Chabinga should not find space in any PF discussions or speeches with immediate effect.
“The issue of saying we wait for this, wait for that is not helping us. And also, I think, stop commenting on Chabinga, please. Chabinga has already donated himself to the UPND,” Chungu said.
He said Chabinga should not have been adopted in the first place for the Mafinga seat.
Chungu said the PF should live with that mistake.
“It is us who made the mistake. PF made the mistake by giving Chabinga an adoption certificate. So, we should blame ourselves for having done what we did by leaving out that brilliant, humble person, Jacob Siwale,” he said.
He urged the party not to be arrogant.
A leader who would be chosen should listen to the needs of the masses.
Chungu said the PF should accept other parties ready to partner with it.
“Let’s stop that arrogance. Let’s allow other people to also come in and partner with us. Let’s allow other people to also come and partner with us and move together as one. So, PF, it is time now to find a leader. Let us stop these squabbles. Let’s stop these infights that we have, these groupings.
That group is for this one, that group is for this one. I think it’s time we should come out and tell people the truth. Let’s come to the table and discuss these things,” he said.
Chungu said it was time for the new PF leadership to give Zambians a new signal.
“It’s just a signal. And that signal is going to take all the numbers and sympathisers. It’s time to move on now,” said Chungu.
