No complaint against Chabinga, say police

THE Zambia Police Service says it has not received a formal complaint against Patriotic Front (PF) faction leader Robert Chabinga who recently issued threats against other members.
During a press briefing in Lusaka Saturday, Chabinga threatened to met out unspecified action on PF members found wearing the former ruling party’s regalia during campaigns leading to the August 9 Mfuwe parliamentary by-election.
However, police service spokesperson Rae Hamoonga told The Mast yesterday no member of the public had so far officially lodged a report t any police station.
“This means the issue you are inquiring about has not been documented and is not officially part of the police record. For a complaint to be processed, it generally needs to be reported to a police station or through designated channels,” Hamoonga said.
In another development, police have yet again blocked some Kabwe residents from holding a peaceful demonstration against Constitution of Zambia (Amendment) Bill No. 7 of 2025 and persistent load shedding in the former mining town.
This is not the first time such a protest has been blocked using different reasons with police warning the protesters that failure to comply with their advice would amount to unlawful assembly.
The residents had, through convener Teddy Nkunka, written to Kabwe Central Police Station to notify it of their intentions to demonstrate.
But police objected citing security reasons.
Speaking in an interview with The Mast, Central Province Police Commissioner Charity Munganga said the protest could not be allowed because of some security concerns.
Munganga said the protest could not be allowed as the country was still in the mood of mourning former president Edgar Lungu who died in South Africa on June 5 and is yet to be buried.
“For now they [protesters] have to wait because of the said concerns,” Munganga said.
But Nkunka sid they would go ahead with the protest because it was within their constitutional right.
