POLICE in Lusaka have launched investigations into a suspected case of murder following the discovery of a naked female body in Kalingalinga Compound in the early hours of yesterday.
According to a statement issued by police public relations officer Rae Hamoonga, the body was discovered around 05:00 hours in the yard of a house.
The find was reported at approximately 05:30 hours by Mervis Chinsungwe, 55, a resident of Kalingalinga, who informed police that she had found the body lying in the unfenced yard of her residence.
Police officers who visited the scene found a naked body of a woman.
Hamoonga said injuries were observed around the neck, raising suspicion of possible strangulation.
He said near the body, police officers recovered a torn pair of underwear in two separate pieces, believed to belong to the victim, along with a torn t-shirt found about a metre away from the body.
Hamoonga said the community had identified the woman as 31-year-old Nalishebo Sikundu, a resident of Kalingalinga.
Her aunt, Annie Lungu, aged 53, expressed shock at the death of her niece who had recently moved out of her aunt’s home and had been living on her own at the time of her death.
The body was deposited in the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) mortuary, where a postmortem examination will be conducted to determine the exact cause of her death.
