Indifference to injustice is immoral – Alick Banda

 By Tony Nkhoma

IT IS immoral to live a justified life while giving a blind eye to injustice, Catholic Archdiocese of Lusaka Archbishop Dr Alick Banda has advised Christians.

Arch Banda said citizens should not make good excuses for their inaction in the face of injustice.

He urged Christians to pray for God’s forgiveness for their blindness towards their neighbours, self-preoccupation, tribalism and the worry only about themselves and their own

“May God forgive us our blindness towards our neighbour, our self-preoccupation, our tribalism, and the worry only about ourselves and our own.  Forgive us our capacity to watch [social media] and do nothing about it,” Archb Banda said.

In his homily at St Mathias Mulumba Catholic Parish in Bauleni Compound in Lusaka, he said it was selfish for any individual not to see the pain of the neighbour.

“Christians should not procrastinate so that they can continue to live justified lives in the face of injustice because they can make good excuses for our in-action,” Archb Banda said.

He urged Christians to always acknowledge God’s holiness respecting his ways and not theirs.

“May we always acknowledge your holiness, respecting that your ways are not our ways, your standards are not our standards.  May the reverence we give your name pull us out of the selfishness that prevents us from seeing the pain of our neighbour,” Archb Banda said.

He said Christians should give to the poor not because they needed their help but because their own health depended on giving.

“God always stands with the weak, the powerless, the poor, the abandoned, the sick, the aged, the very young, the unborn and those who by being victims of circumstance beat the heat of the day,” Archb Banda said.

Christians should give from their sustenance and not just from their surplus.
