SHUT up and stop talking good about late former president Edgar Chagwa Lungu now that he is dead yet you called him a thief until his death, acting Patriotic Front (PF) president Given Lubinda has told off pretenders.
Lubinda criticised those who were mourning Lungu and praising him saying ‘he tremendously contributed to this nation’ when they called him all sorts of names and did not recognise him as president of Zambia when he was alive.
Speaking when he addressed mourners at the PF secretariat in Lusaka yesterday, a grim-faced Lubinda announced that the former ruling party’s headquarters was the national mourning centre for the former president.
He urged PF members, supporters and sympathisers to ignore any other mourning centre which had not been approved by the party.
“Shut up! Shut up! Shut up! Stop it! Today he [Lungu] has died, he has become good. You called him all sorts of names. You insulted him. So why has he become good and important to you today?” Lubinda railed without naming his target.
He said Lungu died a suffering man at the hands of President Hakainde Hichilema and the United Party for National Development (UPND).
Lubinda maintained that the official mourning place for Lungu is the PF secretariat in Lusaka and all PF offices dotted around the country, not any other place.
The acting Tonse Alliance chairperson said the PF would distribute branded and dedicated books of condolences bearing the PF stamp where people can sign and tell their stories about Lungu.
“We are going to put books of condolences in all provinces at PF designated places. Our books will have a PF stamp. Any other book you will be given, ignore it. We don’t know what they want to do with your signatures,” Lubinda said.
He said the entire PF and Tonse Alliance leadership was in touch with the Lungu family in South Africa and the people of Zambia would be updated about the funeral programme.
Lubinda thanked all well-wishers who had donated food and other materials to mourners gathered at the PF secretariat.
Meanwhile, Lubinda has dismissed as false and malicious rumours being circulated by the UPND on social media that the mourners at the secretariat are complaining of hunger.
He said the party had, in fact, received more food from well-wishers than it needed and there was enough for every mourner.
And later in the day, Zambia Must Prosper (ZMP) president and Tonse Alliance council of presidents member Kelvin Fube Bwalya donated over 20 bags of mealie meal, sugar, buns, cooking oil, charcoal and many other consumable items on behalf of his party to the PF.
PF provincial chairman Christopher Shakafuswa received the donation on behalf of the party and thanked Bwalya and ZMP for the donation.
