Mwiimbu risks going to jail, warns KBF
By Tony Nkhoma
MINISTER of Home Affairs Jack Mwiimbu is not a principled man and must resign or else he will be jailed in future, Zambia Must Prosper (ZMP) leader Kelvin Fube Bwalya has warned.
In a stern warning, Bwalya wondered what had changed with Mwiimbu for him to support a bill which was more evil than the Bill 10 which did not pass in Parliament.
He reminded Mwiimbu to recall that he had joined in the celebrations at Community House when Bill 10 failed to go through in Parliament.
“Let me remind senior lawyers within UPND [United Party for National Development]. If they still want us to respect them as members of the Bar, the honourable Jack Mwiimbu, State Council, minister of home affairs, there are clips of you when you were in opposition. You were Mwiimbu, fighting for the Zambians when Bill 10 was in the process. You were saying, no, you’re on the side of the people,” Bwalya said.
He wondered why Mwiimbu was now not with the people but instead supporting the suspicious Constitution (Amendment) Bill N0. 7 of 2025 which Zambians had rejected.
Addressing the media in Lusaka Thursday, Bwalya said Mwiimbu was a pretender because he was on record saying the Constitution could not be amended without consultation with the people.
“Constitution cannot be amended without their engagement. You wanted the process to go back to the people. What has changed today? Jack Mwiimbu, what has changed? Let’s not be those kinds of politicians, man,” Bwalya said.
Bwalya urged Mwiimbu to behave and remain principled if he wanted to gain respect of majority Zambians.
He said Mwiimbu should be careful because he risked going to jail for inflicting pain on innocent Zambians.
“Jack Mwiimbu, behave! That’s the kind of warning I’m giving because I’m going to play that clip. I’m going to say ‘do you see this, Jack?’ ‘Yes.’ ‘So, why did you flip here and go and vote for Bill 7?’ If he’s not going to have an answer, he’s going to jail because you can’t be inflicting this kind of pain on the Zambians. Zambians are suffering,” Bwalya warned.
He said as a lawyer Mwiimbu should stick to the truth and be principled because his lies would soon bear testimony against him.
“He’s a fellow lawyer. I expect principle. I have said the history of me and the Constitution will bear me testimony. Even at the point of me being expelled from PF [former ruling party, Patriotic Front], it was because I said the Constitution will bear me testimony,” Bwalya said.
“So, let’s not beat about the bush. If Jack Mwiimbu meant what he said when he was arguing for the Zambian people against Bill 10, and when they went to dance at Community House when they succeeded that Bill 10 had fallen, let him show that same commitment. If he’s not happy, let him resign. If he can’t resign, then he’s living for his tummy,” Bwalya said
He said Mwimbu should resign because he did not have principles.
If he failed to resign, then he was in government for his tummy.
Government recently released the Constitution (Amendment) Bill N0. 7 of 2025 in which it has proposed controversial amendments to the current Constitutions, which many stakeholder regard as a self-preservation scheme to save the UPND from defeat in next year’s general election.
