Don’t provoke mourners, Nakacinda warns
By Tony Nkhoma
THOSE planning to provoke people mourning Edgar Chagwa Lungu at the Patriotic Front (PF) secretariat by dispersing them will do it at their own peril, Raphael Nakacinda has warned.
Nakacinda, who is PF secretary general, said President Hakainde Hichilema’s work had been made difficult by the bad advisors surrounding him.
He said Hichilema’s advisors were failing to advise him on good governance.
Nakacinda said dispersing mourners using state machinery was bad advice.
“I want to assure you that we are not expecting threats. We will remain united in PF. We will continue to mobilise other political outlets in the country to remain united,” Nakacinda said.
He said the PF, Tonse Alliance and all opposition members were aware of the ill advice Hichilema was receiving to unleash the police to disperse innocent mourners at the party’s secretariat.
Speaking when he addressed mourners at the PF secretariat in Lusaka yesterday, Nakacinda said such ill advice was just making Hichilema’s work more difficult even when his work was already difficult.
“We are aware that some people are advising Mr Hichilema to send the police to go in all areas to disperse PF mourners mourning their leader Edgar Chagwa Lungu. We urge those doing so that such plans are making Mr Hichilema’s work more difficult because his work is already tough,” he said.
Nakacinda said the PF and the Tonse leadership had asked more questions on the death of Lungu and all they wanted were answers and not to be provoked.
“We are vehemently committed to making sure that we mourn President Edgar Chagwa Lungu peacefully. And we refuse those who want to provoke us. And we commit that we will not provoke anybody. But if you provoke us, in this case we appeal for peace. And if there are questions we are asking, we are expecting answers from those questions. We are not expecting threats,” he said.
Nakachinda said mourners were not expecting any threats of violence nor were they expecting threats of arrest.
He assured mourners across the country that they were safe.
Nakacinda said prophets of doom were expecting the PF and Tonse Alliance members to be divided, but they were more united than ever.
He said the PF and the Tonse Alliance would soon come up with a God-given leadership that would redeem Zambians in 2026 from the poor leadership of Hichilema.
“I want to assure you that we will remain united. We will remain united in PF and Tonse. We will remain united. We will also continue to mobilise other political outlets in the country to remain united” Nakacinda said.
