Tonse calls for issue-based Lumezi campaigns
By Tony Nkhoma
LET us have issue-based campaigns in Lumezi instead of resorting to violence, Tonse Alliance Spokesperson Sean Tembo has said.
Tembo urged the ruling United Party for National Development (UPND) to practice progressive politics that could benefit the people of Zambia unlike ferrying cadres to attack innocent people during elections.
“As we commence our campaigns in Lumezi Constituency and Tuuwa Ward, our challenge to the ruling UPND party is that; let us have issue-based campaigns,” Tembo said.
In a statement availed to The Mast, Tembo said instead of ferrying violent cadres to Lumezi, UPND should distribute empty grain bags so that people can begin to package their maize.
He also said the New Dawn administration should have used the money meant for the Lumezi parliamentary by-elections to complete the construction of the Chipata-Lundazi road, which has taken more than three years, with no tangible progress to date.
“Instead of using your campaign platforms in Lumezi to insult and disparage Dr Edgar Chagwa Lungu, please use your campaign platforms to announce the FRA maize floor price for 2025, which the people are waiting for,” Tembo said.
He said it was unfortunate that the UPND was peddling rhetoric instead of speaking the truth with sincerity.
“Our people have waited long enough for economic development and sober national leadership. The time to change is now,” Tembo said.
He said the people of Lumezi were behind the Tonse Alliance as evidenced by the overwhelming support during the filing of nominations on Tuesday
He said the Zambian people particularly in Lumezi are were in total support of the Alliance candidate Goodson Banda under the New Congress Party (NCP) ticket.
He expressed happiness that Tonse Alliance had successfully filed nominations in Lumezi and Tuuwa Ward of Sikongo District of Western Province.
“It is now more evident than ever before, that the Zambian people have warmly embraced our established platform, the NCP as the best vehicle for the Alliance to use in securing election victory, not only in upcoming by-elections, but also in next year’s general elections,” Tembo said.
He said the people of Zambia had embraced the Alliance as the main opposition movement in Zambia, and a Government in waiting under the Chairmanship of former president Edgar Lungu.
He said Tonse was a political force that stood ready to lead the Zambian people out of the current shackles of poverty, corruption, selective justice and incompetence.
