HE’S NOT MESSIAH
By Mast Reporter
ZAMBIANS thought President Hakainde Hichilema was the new ‘Messiah’ to liberate them, but sadly he has taken them to hell instead, Dr Akashambatwa Mbikusita-Lewanika has said.
Dr Mbikusita-Lewanika said Zambians had subscribed themselves to new dictators under the United Party for National Development (UPND).
In an interview with The Mast, he said Zambia needed political leaders who would not exploit them but agree on the totality of the entire government policy system.
“People thought ‘this [Hichilema] is the Messiah. He’s taking us to heaven because he’s an economist’. He was taught economics in what system? He was taught economics in a capitalist system, free market system. So, it’s very dangerous,” Dr Mbikusita-Lewanika said.
He said freedom of expression was killed a long time ago and Hichilema had just codified it instead of reversing it.
“So, basically the freedom of expression has been killed because of the cyber laws that are coming in. The only thing that I would like to emphasize is that it was killed a long time ago. These people have just codified it,” Dr Mbikusita-Lewanika said.
He urged Zambians not to be too soft but to take risks to save the country from plunder.
Dr Mbikusita-Lewanika expressed worry that the current crop of politicians was too soft, urging them to be selfless and prepare themselves to suffer and sacrifice for the country.
“We are too soft for our voices. We are being exploited. Why are we ignoring them? One, of course, after independence, when we stood up to speak against UNIP, against MMD, against Kaunda, we were risking,” he said.
Dr Mbikusita-Lewanika said in 2021 Zambians thought by voting for an economist he would change the economic fortunes, but to their surprise he had made their situation even worse.
“It’s better to have a non-economist in charge because the real professional service should be provided at public civil servant level, at non-partisan, non-political level,” Dr Mbikusita-Lewanika said.
