FOOTBALL Association of Zambia (FAZ) president Andrew Kamanga has urged candidates vying for positions at this Friday’s reconvened elective annual general meeting (AGM) to ensure that their campaign messages are firmly grounded in truth.
And a delegation from FIFA, Confederation of African Football (CAF) and Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA) is expected in the country this week to monitor the FAZ AGM set for May 9 at Misuku lodge in Kabwe.
Kamanga said it was important for the football fraternity to keep their eyes open and ensure that football remained a winner after elections.
“Finally, we urge all prospective candidates to maintain a civil discourse and ensure that their campaign messages are firmly grounded in truth,” Kamanga said in his weekly column dubbed The President’s Corner posted on the FAZ Facebook page yesterday.
He urged fans to remain calm.
“Our message to the football family is to keep their eyes open and ensure that football ultimately emerges as a winner,” Kamanga said.
Meanwhile, Kamanga said officials from FIFA, CAF and COSAFA are expected in the country this week to monitor the much anticipated FAZ elections.
“Our country will be welcoming a high powered delegation from FIFA, CAF and COSAFA that have been magnanimous enough to return after the botched AGM in Livingstone on March 29.
“Our prayer is that our football will be spared the embarrassment of Livingstone that cast our game in bad light,” he said.
