HH talks more, does little – M’membe
By Tony Nkhoma
SOCIALIST Party President Dr Fred M’membe says President Hakainde Hichilema will be judged based on what he has done, which is nothing.
Commenting on Hichilema’s 2025 State of the Nation (SONA) address to Parliament on Friday, Dr M’membe related Hichilema’s address to a Bible verse in James Chapter 2, which says ‘faith without deeds is worthless’.
He told journalists in Lusaka yesterday after a court appearance Hichilema went to Parliament to regurgitate all the nice paradigms people wanted to hear.
“They go to Parliament to regurgitate all the nice paradigms we want to hear. All the nice things. But what do they do? Judge them not on the basis of what they say. Judge them on what they do,” Dr M’membe said.
He said Hichilema promised Zambians so many stories both in terms of governance and the economic issues, which he had never fulfilled.
“So he has told many stories to Parliament. It’s not the first time we have gone to Parliament to talk about these values. What does he do? The opposite,” Dr M’membe said.
He said despite the bad situation prevailing especially in compounds, Zambia was lucky to have low levels of cholera.
It was sad that there had been no improvement in the drainage system nor any improvement in the sanitation systems in the country.
“The situation is bad, especially in the compound. With the rains that are falling and the heat that is there, the drainage system has collapsed. People are living in water. So, it’s sad. And the population is increasing. We can only pray to God to help us,” Dr M’membe said.
And Dr M’membe has maintained that it is sad that Hichilema thinks it pays to be a puppet of the West.
He said Hichilema was cheating himself by being a puppet of Imperialism.
He charged Hichilema could not listen to advice not to strike the deal with AFRICOM because it wouldn’t take Zambia anywhere as it was a threat to the country.
“And you think by establishing African facilities here, you are protected. If they can do that to Zelensky, what about the small puppets here in the periphery where there’s not much interest? They had more military facilities there. The USA invested heavily in the military facilities in Ukraine,” Dr M’membe said.
He said it was high time Zambia started to design a future of its own, not a future designed by others.
And Dr M’membe says the delimitation exercise government wants to undertake is based on the statistics which are currently marred with controversies.
He said government should not go ahead with the exercise until the statistical issue is dealt otherwise the delimitation exercise will be a recipe for conflict.
“There is something seriously wrong with statistics. We should tell them to wait a little bit. Let’s sort out the prerequisites before we get into that. Or it will be a recipe for conflict,” Dr M’membe warned.
