85 year of grandmother killed by grandson

An 85-year-old woman of Lusangazi District in Eastern Province has been murdered by her grandson after she allegedly accused him of stealing Glycerin from her shop.
Elizabeth Zulu, 85, of Sandwe village in Chief Sandwe’s area was hit with a pounding stick by Mathews Zulu around 15: 00 hours on Saturday and fell down unconscious.
Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer, Robertson Mweemba said the suspect was seen coming out of his grandmother’s shop on April 13, 2025 and later she started complaining that glycerin was missing.
Mweemba said explained that according to eye witnesses and some villagers, Zulu was in a habit of shoplifting from his grandmothers’ shop.
He said that Zulu got upset when he heard that his grandmother was complaining about the missing glycerin and that he was the main suspect.
Mweemba said it was during the confrontation that led to a bitter exchange of words.
He said it was then that the suspect hit his grandmother with a pounding stick on the head and became unconscious
Mweemba said the deceased died from Kalindawalo General Hospital in Petauke District whilst the suspect was in police custody for murder.
