“Why Me”, HH, UPND, tribalism, classism and free speech
By Azwell Banda
ZAMBIA is a country which has abandoned more than half its population to hunger, unemployment, poverty, diseases, grotesque inequalities and early deaths. The majority of this abandoned humanity are Zambia’s young people. It is such that a cow at any of Hakainde Hichilema’s ranches enjoys the right to food: it is guaranteed food every day. Hakainde Hichilema’s cows have access to veterinary services. They have access to water. They have shelter. Hichilema’s cows are carefully bred and groomed, for the market.
The majority of Zambia’s young people have no guaranteed access to water, food, shelter and medical care. The majority of Zambia’s youth still lack basic education infrastructure, adequately trained, skilled and highly motivated teachers and are taught using syllabuses which long expired as economic and social realities have overtaken them. Life is cruel, hard, unkind, totally merciless, brutal and short, for the majority of Zambia’s youth, and many adults.
It is an insult, extremely offensive, for a human being in a country so rich with natural resources to live a life inferior to that of a farm animal on Hakainde Hichilema’s ranches. Of course, there is a history to our mass hunger, poverty, unemployment and extreme inequalities. Of course, the world capitalist and imperialist system is wired against us. We are consciously placed at the bottom of the world food chain in order that our natural resources and labour may be cheaply accessible to rich capitalist and imperialist countries and their rich people. National debt is a weapon used to keep us chained to a world which sustains us in poverty. We know all this.
But it is our elite neo-colonial politicians and their intellectual, academic, professional, civic, religious and traditional acolytes who have sustained us in our backward, hungry, unemployed, poor and unequal existence, and dependent on “foreign aid” after our independence in 1964. Our neo-colonial politicians such as Hakainde Hichilema and the majority of our “leaders” in the opposition are all born and bred in the same political family: the family of lying, hypocritical, corrupt, thieving, nepotistic, tribalist, regionalists, homophobic, incompetent, undemocratic, unpatriotic and puppets of foreign money and are all thoroughly incapable of resolving the economic and social crises which affect the majority of Zambians.
And yet our masters, our elite neo-colonial politicians and their intellectual, academic, civic, professional, religious and traditional acolytes, having reduced our lives to insults, want us to speak in their polite language, the language of the well to do spoilt parasites that they are! We live lives inferior to the lives of dogs in the homes of our elite neo-colonial politicians and their intellectual, academic, civic, professional, religious and traditional acolytes; and yet they all want us not to use insults – the very essence and content of our daily lived lives – especially when we talk about them and how they have reduced us to an existence beneath that of their dogs.
Leave “Why Me” alone, you numbskulls, you economic, social, cultural and political cretins! You have created him, accept him as your creature. You have reduced more than half of Zambia’s population into scavengers, paupers, ash mouthed urchins and yet you want them to have your mannerisms and to use your flat boring speech, your ape minority middle- and upper-class language and mannerisms. How foolish and arrogant you are! These Zambians you insult by thrusting into subhuman forms of existence did not choose to be born poor: you have manufactured them!
You want to have the right to demand “decent” language free of insults, anger and hate: abandon your ways of being parasitic on foreign money and embrace your people by attacking and abolishing their hunger, unemployment, poverty, homelessness, diseases, inferior education and so on, and they will reward you with good manners, with “decent” language free of insults, anger and hate.
You hate them, that is why you steal from them, you rob them of their natural resources, their youth, their very lives, and you imprison them in inhuman poverty! But you have the audacity to expect them to speak nicely about you. You are political and cultural morons, proper neo-colonial empty heads.
Hakainde Hichilema wants his fellow elite neo-colonial politicians and their intellectual, academic, professional, religious and traditional acolytes to join him in fighting the insults and hatred on social media. He either suffers from chronic amnesia or he is a dimwit. How can he forget so easily that to win elections, he too had to lower himself to the level of the majority of Zambians whose lives are insults? I am watching a video clip from a large folder of similar videos, as I write this, in which Hakainde Hichilema is using plain, low, uncouth and very unpalatable insults (including the Bemba word “chikala”) and language to describe his opposition when he was in the opposition, and now that he is in government.
A pathological, compulsive liar like Hakainde Hichilema in a country like Zambia where his type have impoverished the masses is a perfect target for practicing old and new insults, hate speech and venting anger, by the impoverished masses. The UPND and their ethnic base must stop behaving as if they are Zambia’s fascistic Zionist Jews and are above both the law and cultural ridicule when they become morons, imbeciles, liars, hypocrites, corrupt, thieving, nepotistic, tribalist, regionalists, homophobic, incompetent, undemocratic, unpatriotic, puppets of foreign money and as incompetent political leaders thoroughly incapable of resolving the economic and social crises which affect the majority of Zambians. Hichilema and the UPND leaders are all these things and much more.
It is extreme classism and absolute contempt for the majority of Zambia’s people whom our elite neo-colonial politicians and their intellectual, academic, professional, civic, religious and traditional acolytes of all tribes and ethnicities, in government and in the opposition have thrust into shameful poverty for them to demand that these same impoverished and hungry Zambian masses must speak to, and about them, politely, in “decent” language, without hot anger and pure cold contempt and deep hatred from them. Our neo-colonial elites are dumb, very dumb indeed.
If you do not want “Why Mes” abolish mass poverty in Zambia – cultural and material inhuman mass poverty – or shut up and respect Why Me’s rights to conscience and free speech! You hurt them and therefore you hate them; they hate you too! It cannot be any other way. You have manufactured a country of lumpens, live with it.
