Ethiopia military inspires Zambia Army

THE Zambia Army says it aims to learn from the progress Ethiopia’s Defence Forces have made in technological advancement to strengthen its operational effectiveness.
Deputy Army Commander and Chief of Staff Major General Luswepo Sinyinza said the Army was bench-marking Ethiopia’s Defence Forces to modernise its operations in order to improve its capabilities.
“Taking a leaf from Ethiopia that has developed technology to upgrade obsolete military equipment into modern, technologically advanced hardware, the Zambia Army aims to adopt similar strategies to revamp outdated equipment and strengthen national defence,” Maj Gen Sinyinza said.
He said the initiative was in line with the directive by President Hakainde Hichilema, who is also the Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces.
Maj Gen Sinyinza said this when he paid a courtesy call on Zambia’s Ambassador to Ethiopia Rose Sakala in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Sakala commended the Zambia Army for bench-marking modernisation initiatives with Ethiopia’s Defence Forces which she said were renowned as among the most advanced military forces in Africa.
She was happy with the Army for its ongoing role in maintaining peace and security on the continent, which aligned with Agenda 2063’s goal of a conflict-free Africa.
Sakala praised the Army for its swift response in helping communities affected by recent droughts and floods across Zambia.
This is according to a statement issued by first secretary press and tourism at the Zambian Embassy in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Inutu Mwanza.
