POLICE in Livingstone have arrested a 37-year-old man for defiling his girlfriend’s eight-year-old daughter who is believed to be mentally challenged.
Southern Province commanding officer Auxensio Daka said in a statement yesterday the case was reported to Mbita Police Post under Libuyu Police Station on Wednesday last week by the father of the girl.
Daka said the incident occurred on Sunday last week at an unknown time in Malota Compound Livingstone.
“Brief facts of the matter are that the mother of the victim did not report the matter to the police because the boyfriend buys her food. However, information spread out and it was picked up by an informer who called the police and gave information about the incident,” read the statement in part.
“Thereafter, the police investigated the matter and got hold of the father who made an official report at Mbita Police Post and the victim was issued with a medical report form. Police made follow-ups and the suspect has been arrested. Investigations into the matter are ongoing.”
