IT’S TIME TO WORK
…Focus on delivery of promises, Chisunka advises Hichilema
By Adrian Mwanza
SENIOR Chief Chisunka of the Baushi people of Mansa District in Luapula Province has urged President Hakainde Hichilema not to focus on dealing with his political opponents but to focus on delivering his campaign promises.
In an interview with The Mast yesterday, Senior Chief Chisunka said there was no time to deal with political opponents but to deliver the promises made during the campaign for the 2026 general elections.
“I want to urge the head of state to focus on delivering and not on a situation where political opponents are targeted,” he said.
The chief said Hichilema should focus largely on uniting the nation and improving the economic status of the people of Zambia.
Senior Chief Chisunka said Zambians were peaceful people who should not turn against one another.
“I am happy that President Hichilema did not include chiefs in campaigns. Let us now look forward to developing the country as one Zambia, one nation, which has been our motto,” he said.
Opposition political parties should not to engage in violence but focus on helping the nation to heal despite their loss.
Senior Chief Chisunka said politicians should not use the youths as tools of political violence.
“The UPND should just focus on developing this country and not targeting people who are deemed political opponents,” he said.
Senior Chief Chisunka commended Hichilema’s treatment of traditional leaders in all the 10 provinces.
He said Zambians were yearning for peace and politicians needed to champion the agenda.
And Organised Peoples Party (OPP) leader Dr Brian Mushimba has advised Hichilema to use his last term in office to unite Zambians.
“As President Hichilema begins his final term, he must use this opportunity to unite the country more. He needs to strengthen the country’s democratic institutions, accelerate economic development and ensure that every Zambian, regardless of political affiliation, has an opportunity to prosper,” Dr Mushimba said.
He congratulated Hichilema on his victory in the just-ended election.
“We wish him wisdom, strength and courage as he assumes the responsibility of leading our great nation for the next five years,” Dr Mushimba said.
He said Zambians had spoken.
“We wish President-elect Hichilema every success in his final term and pray that his leadership will leave behind a stronger, more prosperous and more united Zambia,” Dr Mushimba said.
Hichilema defeated National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity (NRPUP) president Brian Mundubile in the Thursday election.
