SP will free civil servants from debt trap – M’membe

SOCIALIST Party (SP) presidential candidate Dr Fred M’membe says once voted into power next month, civil servants will be freed from the prolonged debt trap.
Dr M’membe expressed sadness at the levels of debt civil servants were accumulating.
He said low salaries and poor conditions of service had contributed to the debt crisis civil servants found themselves in.
“Once we are elected into office next month, our first mission is to address the debt burden most of our civil servants are grappling with. Our party will tirelessly work to ensure that civil servants are free from the debt,” he said in a Facebook post on his page.
Dr M’membe said the Socialist Party was committed to improving the livelihood of the people of Zambia by providing decent accommodation and a proper healthcare system.
“To our civil servants, we remain committed to the commitment we made to you about five months ago when we visited Chinsali in Muchinga Province. We made it clear that our government is a people’s government. It will respond to your needs. You need a decent wage,” he said.
He said his party was determined to restore civil servants’ dignity, improve their welfare and ensure that their hard work was rewarded.
“We are determined to restore your dignity, improve your welfare, and ensure that your hard work is rewarded,” he said.
