NRPUP CROWDS NOT A BOTHER
…UPND not worried about opposition noise – Bwalya
THE United Party for National Development (UPND) is not intimidated or worried about the huge crowds the opposition National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity (NRPUP) is pulling across the country, Fr Frank Bwalya has said.
In an interview, Bwalya, the director-general for media in the presidential campaign team, said the UPND was not worried because the party had done a lot of work Zambians were happy about.
He said the ruling party had reviewed its performance in the background to ensure Hichilema wins next month.
“As UPND, we are not worried about the numbers they are attracting because our candidate is attracting huge crowds and he is actually traversing more places than the opposition,” he said.
Bwalya warned NRPUP presidential candidate Brian Mundubile not to overrate himself, saying the victory of Hichilema was imminent.
He said attracting crowds was not enough.
“So, the opposition should not think they would have it easy because the people of Zambia will give a statement by voting for President Hakainde Hichilema,” he said.
Bwalya said Zambia was a democracy where people were allowed to make their own choices.
“It is good that the opposition is getting some numbers and that the UPND is enjoying the ride. This is what a democracy is,” he said.
The opposition should not be fooled because some people in the crowd were children without voters’ cards.
Bwalya said he was confident Hichilema would carry the day after recording a plus in his developmental and economic recovery.
He said the people of Zambia were able to see what the UPND had done in the five years in power.
Bwalya said Hichilema had revamped the mining sector, which had been dead under the Patriotic Front (PF) government.
He said it was shameful that people were trying to malign Hichilema by accusing him of using tribalism when he had done much good for the nation.
“This President has stabilised the mining sector, resulting in millions of dollars in investments, meaning more jobs for the people of Zambia,” Bwalya said.
He said under Hichilema, Cash for Work had been improved while the school feeding programme was enabling children to get free meals.
“President Hichilema managed to restructure the country’s debt because if the country had failed, certain state assets like Zesco would have been grabbed. This is a President who cares for the nation,” Bwalya said.
Zambians cast their votes next month to elect the president, parliamentary and local government representatives.
