Police should pick ‘tribalist’ Makai, Imboela demands

THE Zambia Police Service must arrest former Mongu Central member of Parliament Makai Makai for inciting political violence during a campaign rally in Western Province, Saboi Imboela has demanded.
In an interview with The Mast Imboela, president of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), said it was unfortunate that it was the public that was talking about the matter and not the police which had been issuing statements promptly on such matters.
In a video circulating on social media, Makai, who was addressing a campaign rally, told the crowd not to allow National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity (NRPUP) president Brian Mundubile and his running mate Makebi Zulu in Western Province.
Makai told the youths to be vigilant and ensure that they chased NRPUP team once they entered Western Province.
But Imboela said it was very disheartening that Makai, her tribesmate, could issue such offensive instructions.
“What is the police waiting for? This is clearly a case of inciting violence and if it continues it can even set the country on fire,” she said.
Imboela said what Makai said was extremely tribal and the law needed to take action before a precedent was set.
She said what Makai did was a sign that the United Party for National Development (UPND) would lose power and the behaviour of the former MP were the last kicks of a dying horse.
Imboela urged Mundubile and his team to go to Western Province to see what Makai and his team would do.
She said the NRPUP was free to go anywhere in the country without fear of anyone.
“The police only act when such remarks come from the opposition, but if it involves an individual from the UPND then it died a natural death,” he said.
