Police order Mundubile, Makebi out of Ndola

POLICE on the Copperbelt yesterday ordered Tonse-Pamodzi Alliance presidential candidate Brian Mundubile and his running mate, Makebi Zulu to leave Ndola ahead of President Hakainde Hichilema’s working visit to the province.
The directive came after Mundubile conducted a roadshow in Chipulukusu Township and attended a church service at the United Church of Zambia (UCZ) St Paul’s Congregation.
After the church service, scores of Ndola residents lined the streets displaying the lamp symbol of the National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity (NRPUP), on whose ticket he is contesting the August 13 general elections, while denouncing the United Party for National Development (UPND) over failure to deliver meaningful change that would improve the lives of many Zambians.
The residents were heard calling for a change of government and wishing Mundubile and Zulu God’s guidance, strength and wisdom ahead of the August 13 general elections.
However, when the two leaders later proceeded to Fatmos Lodge, where they were expected to meet party officials and supporters, a contingent of armed police officers led by Copperbelt Police Commissioner Yuyi Mwala surrounded the premises and ordered them to leave.
Tonse-Pamodzi Alliance running mate Makebi Zulu confirmed that the lodge had been surrounded by police officers.
“I can confirm that heavily armed Copperbelt Police officers commandeered by one Yuyi Mwala, who is the commissioner of the province, have surrounded and barricaded Fatmos Lodge, where President Brian Mundubile and I are staying, after leaving Chipulukusu where we attended church service in the morning,” he said.
Zulu said Yuyi demanded that the team should leave the Copperbelt Province immediately as their presence was illegal.
“Mr Yuyi is demanding that we leave the Copperbelt Province immediately as it is illegal for us to be when he is expecting Mr Hakainde Hichilema to be in Ndola this afternoon [Yesterday]. We have told Mr Yuyi, we are citizens of Zambia just like Mr Hakainde is. We will not leave the Copperbelt Province, we have every right to be here, we will not run, we will not hide,” Zulu said.
