UPND in unprecedented turmoil, says Mangani

UNITED Party for National Development (UPND) Monze District youth chairman Cassius Mangani has expressed concern that the ruling party has plunged into unprecedented confusion ahead of the August 13 general election, with only 70 days left before voting day.
Speaking in an interview on Chikuni Radio and monitored by The Mast, Mangani expressed concern over the growing divisions within the party in the district ahead of the elections.
“Since the formation of the UPND, I have never witnessed the levels of division currently being seen, where several members from the same party are aspiring for the same elective positions and others choosing to contest as independent candidates after failing to secure adoption by the party. This is unprecedented and threatens the power and unity of the party ahead of the election,” he said.
Mangani appealed to members to remain united and loyal to the decisions made by the party leadership, warning that going against the decision would be catastrophic to the victory in August.
Mangani said discipline and unity were key to ensuring victory and continued development under the UPND government.
“The President made it clear that he wanted to work with leaders who share the party’s vision and agenda for national development, but having many independent candidates will make it difficult for him to effectively work with elected leaders in delivering development to the people,” he said.
He warned that continued divisions and internal conflicts could weaken the party’s support base in the district.
Mangani urged members to focus on strengthening the UPND and maintaining the confidence that the people had placed in the leadership.
“We need to promote dialogue, reconciliation and unity among members as the country prepares for the forthcoming elections. We need to strengthen party structures and not kill or weaken them because it may affect our victory,” he said.
