Unite or keep quiet, Msoni urges opposition

IT IS time for the opposition to unite now or remain disintegrated and die trying alone while the United Party for National Development (UPND) continues destroying the nation, says All People’s Congress (APC) president Nason Msoni.
In an interview with The Mast, Msoni said what had brought the country to the current level of governance was the failure by the opposition to build a strong voice to stop the UPND from destroying the nation.
He said the UPND had done a lot of damage to the nation and was now finding it easy to continue because of a selfish, greedy and disintegrated opposition.
“This is a worrying situation the nation is facing. This is a disaster for all Zambians. The only hope our people have now is to have these opposition leaders, and I mean all of them, starting with the Socialist and People’s Pact, Tonse Alliance, the Pamodzi Alliance, WOZA and many others to come together and kick out the UPND,” Msoni said.
He said Zambians were in a crisis and desperately looking for a saviour from the bad governance of the UPND.
Opposition political parties and their leadership should seek wisdom and put the people of Zambia first as time was not with them before nominations were conducted.
“We have been given a rare opportunity to help Zambians redeem themselves once again and the people have spoken well that we need unity, we need a united opposition. They have told us that they need a single candidate. And why should we reject people’s wish as the opposition? Are we really listening to our people? What is wrong just for once we bow down to the calls and demands of our people? This is a challenge for everyone who wants to contest as an opposition leader.”
Msoni said the ill-treatment of former president Edgar Lungu from the day he lost power and to the time he died should be a turning point for the entire opposition to join hands.
“If we cannot do it for the people of Zambia, then let’s do it for ECL, who is still suffering in death, who is still being tormented in death. Let’s unite, we give back the power to the people and we give the former president a decent burial, a dignified burial and heal this country,” he said.
Msoni said the way the opposition had congregated at Praise Christian Centre Church, remembering former president Lungu, it should be the same way they promote unity and agree to find one candidate to challenge President Hakainde Hichilema in the August elections.
“It will be the most painful thing for Zambia to see my friends leave that place without thinking about Zambia, it will be total betrayal for the people of Zambia too, it is my humble prayer that we find it in our heart to do the right thing for Zambia,” he said.
