VICE President Mutale Nalumango has urged Zambians to embrace peace and unity because national development depends on harmony.
Speaking during a courtesy call to traditional leaders ahead of the Reformed Church in Zambia (RCZ) 45th Anniversary of the Railway Congregation in Kabwe, Nalumango said peace began in the hearts of citizens and should guide everyday interactions.
“We need peace, we are at a point where we don’t need to compromise our peace and unity,” she said.
She said maintaining peace ahead of the upcoming general elections was non-negotiable for national development beyond elections.
Nalumango said differences in opinion in politics were natural, adding that they should never divide the nation.
“Why should we hurt and hate one another because of the political one belongs to? As a people, we need to remain united and peaceful, we only have one Zambia and we need to hold and preserve it so dearly,” she said.
She said the Bible was clear on the need to promote harmony and human values.
Meanwhile, Chief Chamuka of the Lenje-speaking people of Chibombo District commended the government for its leadership.
He said peace, unity and development in the nation could only thrive when people appreciate its importance.
Chief Chamuka said Zambians should remain united before, during and after the general elections.
“… the progress achieved so far would not have been possible without effective governance and strong leadership. Let’s follow the example of leaders who act in a peaceful, united and loving manner,” he said.
He commended the government for ensuring that development projects, such as those under the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) involve traditional leaders.
