MINISTER of Finance and National Planning Situmbeko Musokotwane is representing President Hakainde Hichilema in South Africa ahead of this year’s Investing in African Mining Indaba which will be held from February 3 to February 6, 2025 at the International Convention Centre (CTICC) in Cape Town, South Africa.
The Indaba will focus on sustainability and economic value for the African mining sector.
Dr Musokotwane is expected to hold several bilateral and side-line meetings with potential investors and stakeholders.
He is accompanied by his Mines and Mineral Development counterpart Paul Kabuswe, mines Permanent Secretary Hapenga Kabeta, Minister of Transport and Logistics Frank Tayali, private sector players, and other senior government officials.
The Zambian delegation was received by Zambia’s Acting high commissioner to South Africa Inonge Mwenya.
South African President Cyril Ramaphosa is scheduled to deliver a keynote speech today as he addresses the Investing in African Mining Indaba in Cape Town.
And in a statement yesterday, the First Secretary for Press and Public Relations at the Zambia High Commission in South Africa Tamara Nyirenda said the African Mining Indaba serves as a primary platform for discussing and facilitating investment in Africa’s mining sector.
Nyirenda said the Indaba brings together industry leaders, government officials, and investors to network, make deals, and address key issues related to sustainable mining practices and economic development across the continent, with a focus on unlocking the potential of Africa’s abundant mineral resources.
“The Invest in Africa Mining Indaba provides an unparalleled platform for connecting with industry leaders, policymakers, and innovators. This prestigious event will foster valuable collaborations that will not only drive operational success and advance sustainable practices, but also pave the way for a brighter future for the mining industry across Africa and beyond,” she said. “This is key to Zambia as the country has embarked on an ambitious objective to increase copper production to 3 million tonnes per year by 2032, which is a significant increase from the country’s current production of around 800,000 tonnes. The Indaba has attracted more than 8000 delegates from more than 100 countries, 1200 investors, 700 mining companies, and more than 25 Government Ministers are expected to attend the 2025 African Mining Indaba Ministerial Symposium.”
