Don’t be misled by PF, Nkandu warns youth

By Thandizo Banda

MINISTER of Youth, Sport and Arts Elvis Nkandu has urged young people not to be misled by politicians seeking a return to power after their defeat in the 2021 general elections.

Speaking at a Kabwe District youth town hall meeting organised by Bwacha Member of Parliament Sydney Mushanga on Saturday, Nkandu advised members of the Patriotic Front (PF) to accept the prevailing reality that political parties that lost power rarely reclaimed it.

Nkandu encouraged leaders to serve diligently while entrusted with public office because opportunities to govern may not come twice.

He emphasised that politicians should prioritise building a lasting legacy and ensuring their impact endures beyond their tenure.

Meanwhile, Nkandu has urged Mushanga and PF councillors to join the United Party for National Development (UPND).

“The UPND government acknowledges and appreciates Hon. Mushanga’s cooperation and support beyond politics. He has demonstrated the capacity to deliver development and foster progress,” Nkandu said.

He commended Mushanga for spearheading the youth engagement initiative themed: Bridging the Gap, which would be replicated across all the 10 provinces.

Nkandu said the government aimed to reach at least 200 youths in each district with empowerment grants and motorcycles to improve livelihoods.

He highlighted several youth-centred programmes currently being implemented, including civil service employment opportunities, loans and grants, the Constituency Development Fund (CDF), and bursaries.

Nkandu also presented football kits to selected teams.

Speaking at the same meeting, Mushanga urged the more than 1,000 youths who attended the event to actively participate in government initiatives designed to benefit them.

He encouraged young people to take advantage of opportunities that could improve their welfare and livelihoods.

“By aligning with these programmes, youths can access resources and support for personal and community development,” Mushanga said.

He outlined key initiatives aimed at empowering young people as CDF, Youth Empowerment Grants, the National Youth Scheme, Skills Development Scholarships, and the Voluntary Youth Training Programme.

“These programmes are intended to address youth unemployment, promote entrepreneurship, and equip young people with skills relevant to the job market,” he said.
