Write a will, judge counsels Zambians

A HIGH Court judge has encouraged individuals to prepare wills to avoid family disputes and make things smoother for their loved ones after they die.
Kabwe High Court judge-in-charge Kelvin Limbani bemoaned the increasing probate cases in Central Province.
Justice Limbani said a will ensures estate was distributed according to the dead person’s wishes.
“If there is no will, matters end up in court when intestacy law kick in,” he said.
Justice Limbani noted probate cases did not only exert stress on already grieving families, but also added to a swelling backlog of cases.
He said the Judiciary in the region had continued to face infrastructure challenges.
Six local courts had been closed down following recommendations from authorities over health concerns.
Justice Limbani listed the closed courts as Chikupili, Kaundula, Mboroma, Mulungwe, Chipepo and Liteta.
He however regretted that contractors at Masansa, Kapiri Mposhi and Chikupili local courts had abandoned work because of lack money.
Justice Limbani urged authorities to look into the challenges facing the Judiciary to improve access to justice.
