There’s no inferior tribe in Zambia, Central PS
By Thandizo Banda
ALL the tribes in Zambia are equal and there is none which is superior over the other, Central Province permanent secretary Dr Milner Mwanakampwe has said.
Dr Mwanakampwe scoffed at the notion that some tribes were inferior to others.
Speaking during a fundraising dinner for the Likumbi Lya Mize traditional ceremony for the Luvale people of North-western Province held in Kabwe Saturday, he called for unity among Zambians irrespective of tribe, colour or creed.
This year’s Likumbi Lya Mize ceremony, a display of cultural heritage, will be held in Zambezi District from August 17 to 23
in honour of Senior Chief Ndungu, the traditional authority.
Dr Mwanakampwe said the provincial administration was committed to supporting all traditional ceremonies, recognising their significance in promoting cultural heritage and national unity.
“We recognise the significance of these events in promoting our cultural heritage and national unity,” he said.
Dr Mwanakampwe urged Zambians to continue working together, promoting unity, peace and security for the sake of development.
The fundraising event showcased artistic Makishi masquerades, representing ancestral spirits with traditional dances, music and feasting.
Over K30,000 was raised in contributions and pledges from different people who attended the fundraising event.
Central Province Likumbi Lya Mize cultural association chairman Wikin Kaumba hoped that this year’s Likumbi Lya Mize ceremony will be successful.
He noted government’s continued support to traditional ceremonies.
“Traditional ceremonies are unifiers and should be supported by government,” Kaumba said.
