Sports fraternity mourns Sichizya

By Cecilia Nayame

THE Sports fraternity has expressed shock over the death of Absa Bank Zambia brand and communications manager Ndela Sichizya.

Sichizya, who played a critical role in branding, marketing and advertising various sports associations among them the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) and the National Olympic Committee of Zambia (NOCZ), died in the early hours of yesterday at the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) after an illness.

In a message of condolence, NOCZ said Sichizya’s contribution to sport will not go unnoticed.

According to a statement posted on the committee’s Facebook page, NOCZ has described Sichizya as a dedicated person who contributed mercilessly to sports development through his marketing skills.

“The National Olympic Committee of Zambia joins the Zambian corporate community in mourning the passing of distinguished Marketing Executive, Mr Ndela Sichizya.

“Mr Sichizya served with dedication on the NOCZ Marketing and Finance Commission from 2023 to 2024…he will be fondly remembered for his steady contributions to our fundraising initiatives, most notably, the inaugural NOCZ golf tournament held in support of team Zambia’s participation at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

“We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and former colleagues during this difficult time. May his legacy continue to inspire all those who had the privilege of working alongside him,” the statement reads in part.

Meanwhile, FAZ has described Sichizya as a passionate collaborator whose work around the Absa Cup and other joint initiatives left an indelible mark on Zambian football.

“His professionalism, creativity and humility made every interaction memorable and impactful,” the statement reads.

The association said Ndela’s contribution to the sport will never be forgotten.

“We extend our deepest condolences to his family, colleagues at Absa Bank and all who had the privilege of knowing and working with him,” it reads.

Meanwhile, Absa Bank Zambia Plc has described Sichizya as a visionary person who contributed greatly to Zambia’s marketing community.

The bank says Sichizya was instrumental in elevating the Absa brand to new heights through his strategic insight, passion and dedication.

“His gentle demeanour, strong leadership and commitment to communication and brand excellence left a lasting impression. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, colleagues and all who had the privilege of working with him.

“His legacy will remain deeply embedded in our institution and beyond,” the statement reads.
