Mweemba seeks inclusive FAZ leadership

FOOTBALL Association of Zambia (FAZ) presidential aspirant Keith Mweemba says the divisions that have rocked the football fraternity should be urgently resolved because they are negatively affecting the growth of the sport.
Speaking when he featured on a programme dubbed Road to Football House on ZNBC TV 1 Thursday, Mweemba said reuniting the football family would be top of his agenda if elected into office next Friday.
He said it was unfortunate that football had continued being run in a divisive manner.
“In my next 100 days of starting work as FAZ president, my immediate task will be to unite the football family. I will use football statutes to reconcile everyone,” Mweemba said.
He also said it was disheartening that football stakeholders were disorganised when they were supposed to embrace one another.

“Issues to do with camps need to be resolved because that’s where confusion starts from. The moment you have camps in football that’s it but they must come to an end,” Mweemba said.
He also mentioned that once elected, he would bring all football legends together including Kalusha Bwalya and 2012 national team skipper Christopher Katongo to help with insights about the sport, especially to upcoming footballers.
He said it would be unfair of him to single out any legend in his administration.
“It will be unfair for me to single out Kalusha Bwalya in my plans, although not only him but also other football legends who worked tirelessly to put the country where it is today,” he said.
Meanwhile, Mweemba has refuted reports that he was not in good terms with FAZ president Andrew Kamanga.
He said he enjoyed a cordial relationship with Kamanga.
He urged fans not to be acrimonious especially in this campaign period.
“I am in good talking terms with everyone including the incumbent president. We have a good working relationship,” he said.
Mweemba also said he was not going to FAZ to work in isolation but would seek other people’s ideas to promote growth of the sport.
“When it comes to football funding, a person cannot develop football alone. It’s all about team work. A person who knows football does not need to suffocate one sponsor but bring in as many sponsors as possible,” he said.
The MUZA FC proprietor also refuted reports that he was being sponsored by the government ahead of the FAZ polls.
Former FAZ vice president Emmanuel Munaile, former general secretary Adrian Kashala and Mweemba are all challenging Kamanga for the top position at the FAZ elections set for May 9 at Misuku Lodge in Kabwe.
