IT’S OVER FOR UPND
Attempts to divide the opposition won’t work – PF, SP
- Increasing unity among opposition giving UPND nightmares
- UPND does not have any reason to remain in power because it has brought unprecedented suffering on the people of Zambia
- Zambians are resolved to vote them out next year.
IT IS delusional for the United Party for National Development (UPND) to believe that it can divide the opposition because as things stand, its time is over, says the opposition in Central Province.
In separate interviews with The Mast at the weekend, Central Province Patriotic Front (PF) chairperson Billy Sichamba and his Socialist Party (SP) counterpart Patrick Dube said the UPND had resorted to desperate and divisive schemes because the pressure from the opposition was mounting.
They said increasing unity among opposition political parties was giving the ruling party nightmares and it was now desperately looking for ways of slowing down the momentum of the unstoppable people’s movement.
“The writings are clear on the wall for all to see, that UPND is going in August next year. It’s over! Zambians are resolved to vote them out due to the hardships they have been subjected to by the current administration,” Sichamba, who is also member of the PF central committee (MCC), said.
He said it had become clear that the Tonse Alliance and the United Kwacha Alliance (UKA) had formed a formidable opposition which was causing President Hakainde Hichilema and the UPND sleepless nights.
“As opposition, we are not moved by the petty squabbles being sponsored by UPND involving our individual political party members because they are too insignificant. They can rest assured that we shall weather them and triumph in the forthcoming poll. We are unstoppable,” Sichamba said.
SP Central Province chairman Patrick Dube said with or without UPND-sponsored machinations, the opposition was more united than ever.
“The unity among the opposition is a major threat to government, hence they have turned to all manner of propaganda,” Dube said.
He urged all Zambians, including the Church, civil society, labour movement and traditional leaders, to unite and restore Zambia to its past glorious days.
Dube said the UPND did not have any reason to remain in power because it had brought unprecedented suffering on the people of Zambia who voted it into office.
He echoed Sichamba in encouraging members of the opposition to unite, remain united and never “fall prey to the propaganda being sponsored by the desperate and outgoing UPND”.
