DEC nabs 2 Malawians over K195, 000 fake currency

THE Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) has arrested two Malawians for alleged possession of old counterfeit currency amounting to K195, 700.
And offences related to trafficking in Benylin with Codeine were top among the arrests made by the DEC during the week.
DEC public relations officer Allan Tamba named the Malawian suspects as James Duwe, 32, and Samson Nkhoma aged 45.
Tamba said in a statement yesterday that the two suspects were intercepted in Chipata as part of the Commission’s ongoing efforts to curb circulation of fake currency in the region.

Tamba said DEC had seized all exhibits while the suspects have been detained awaiting court appearance.
Meanwhile, Tamba said the DEC in Livingstone apprehended Douglas Nakonje aged 40 for allegedly trafficking in nine boxes of Benylin with Codeine.
In another case Chikwanda Musonda aged 42 was later apprehended in Lusaka in connection with the offence of trafficking in 1,915 boxes of Benylin with Codeine and unlawful importation of 2400 bottles of Benylin.
Tamba said four motor vehicles and cash amounting to 13,500 Rands and K3, 650 Kwacha were seized in connection with the matter.
Tamba said the Commission in Nakonde district arrested Hellen Muwowo aged 46 for allegedly trafficking in 56 bundles of Miraa with a total weight of 32.6 kilogrammes while Yonah Tembo was arrested in Chipata district in connection with the offence of trafficking in 10.3 kilogrammes of loose cannabis.
Tamba said in Nyimba District, the Commission arrested Mwewa Kalasa aged 41, a notorious illicit drug supplier reportedly importing cannabis from other countries for distribution in Zambia.
Kalasa was found in possession of loose cannabis and 150 balls of compressed cannabis, weighing a total of 6.8 kilogrammes.
