ZAMSEED empowers farmers against El-Nino

ZAMSEED has introduced ‘ZAMSEED ni deal’ campaign aimed at equipping farmers ahead of the anticipated El-Nino weather which may affect the country.
Managing director Leah Yondela said the two-month campaign was aimed at empowering farmers by slashing the price of early maturing and drought-resistant seed ahead of the El-Nino weather.
Yondela said the promotion, which starts today and ends on November 30, would see the price of seed slashed to enable the farmers to plan and save money during this period.
“ZAMSEED has made the seed affordable for farmers to access during planting season, a promotion that is aimed at equipping them ahead of the El-Nino weather,” she said.
Head of sales Kafula Chewe said his firm put the interests of the farmers first.
The promotion would ensure they got value for their money.
Chewe said the company had slashed the price of 10kg bags by K120 while it had also slashed the amount of 5kg bags by K60.
He said the promotion was consumer based and all farmers were eligible to buy the commodity countrywide.
“Every farmer is eligible. There is no criteria whatsoever, and the good part is this promotion runs countrywide. So they are free to walk in any ZAMSEED shop and demand for a discount,” Chewe said.
He said the discount given to the farmers reduced the cost of production and that farmers would not be hit by the effects of the El-Nino.
Seed Control and Certification Institute senior seeds officer Zombie Sikazwe urged farmers to plant drought-resistant crops because the country would be hit hard by the El-Nino this farming season.
Sikazwe said ZAMSEED had positioned itself to offer drought-resistant crops to equip farmers in the planting season.
“My call is for farmers to be wary and plant crop resistant crops that can stand the coming El-Nino weather,” she said.
